A large acrylic painting of two fairies holding up a taxidermied third fairy.

'Chrysalis'

48" x 36" Acrylic on Canvas

August 2024

A painting meant to feel bittersweet. It depicts two fairies carrying another fairy trapped and preserved in a shadowbox.

When I first start painting in shapes, I like to be messy and allow the paint to drip. I feel like the drips add a dream-like aspect to the piece and it also forces me to fight perfectionism. For this artwork I started with a mint green underpainting to set the tone.

Working in detail is always scary because it has to look ugly for a little bit before it can be refined. Trusting the process...

'Pierrot'

16" x 20" Acrylic on Canvas

September 2023

This painting was meant to convey the feelings of an abandoned doll. A singular vintage clown doll figure in a black void, preserved on a shelf for all to see with only one expression.

I began ideating this painting with a few thumbnails. I had a feeling in mind but I was struggling to convey it.

The general feeling was "abandoned, isolated but preserving the image of being put together," but I felt like my fourth thumbnail allowed me to take it further and explore its nuance.

This painting flowed out of me pretty quickly due to the limited palette, blocking in the light and shadows was the bulk of the process.

'Red Violet'

October 2025

A portrait painting of a stoic figure. This painting was an attempt to capture my digital painting style in traditional media.

I loosely drafted the sketch for this over a blue underpainting. The original expression was a little more worried/anxious, but I ended up changing it to be more serious.

Here I began to block in simple colors and values.
